If we assume the aforementioned statements to be true, for an average law abiding commercial person, the controversy is adequately settled.īut the writer Chetan Bhagat does not seem to have reconciled and continues to make caustic remarks against the film makers in the media. However the film makers counter that they are protected by the agreement and have not in any way transgressed the realms of legality. The only allegation that remains to be examined is the author’s averment that since the substantial part of the film is borrowed from his book, the story credit cannot mention the names of others. The compensation was Rs 10 lacs which have been paid and the credit was mentioned as rolling credit which implies mention of the writer and the book, in the end credit of the film has also been complied.
The issues relating to monetary compensation, extent and style of credit etc have been detailed in the contract a contract which is legally enforceable and is strictly being adhered to. The film makers maintain that all the issues which are being raised today by the author and more have been provided for in the agreement.
